DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY

Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces tooth roots with metal, screwlike posts and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function much like real ones. Dental implant surgery can offer a welcome alternative to dentures or bridgework that doesn't fit well and can offer an option when a lack of natural teeth roots don't allow building denture or bridgework tooth replacements.

A dental implant itself is a titanium screw, which is placed directly into your jawbone, replacing your missing tooth root. After it’s fitted, the bone surrounding your implant will gradually fuse to it, holding the implant firmly in place. A false tooth (a crown or denture) is then fitted to the top of the implant (the abutment), giving a natural look to your smile.

You can have a single implant, or you can have multiple ones if you need more than one tooth replaced. It is possible to have several implants fitted in the same procedure. If you have few or no teeth, the smile in a day technique might work for you. This uses four to six implants supported by a bridge. Our expert team of doctors in the side dental clinic turkey has years of experience in implant surgery. For detailed information, you can get information from dentist ahmet tosunoğlu.

In general, dental implants may be right for you if you:

·       Have one or more missing teeth

·       Have a jawbone that's reached full growth

·       Have adequate bone to secure the implants or are able to have a bone graft

·       Have healthy oral tissues

·       Don't have health conditions that will affect bone healing

·       Are unable or unwilling to wear dentures

·       Want to improve your speech

DENTAL IMPLANT ALTERNATİVES

If complications arise and your jaw cannot support implants and a Zygomatic implant is absolutely out of the question, your dentist may suggest other alternatives.

BONE AUGMENTATION

Your dentist will restore the bone in your jaw if, in the case, it cannot support implants. It’s possible to use bone additives to fortify the bone.

SINUS LIFT

This procedure involves adding bone below the sinus if the bone there has managed to deteriorate due to missing upper back teeth.

IMMEDIATE LOAD DENTAL IMPLANTS

This type of dental implant is much like adding a spare tire on to your car except with teeth.

It allows for the temporary placement of a temporary tooth, the same day as your implant placement.

This might be the option for you if you have enough bone and have an implant secure enough to support the placement and pressure of the temporary tooth.

MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS

These are toothpick sized implants that are extremely narrow. Their primary use is to stabilize a lower denture.

They are less innovative than the others, but still a perfectly acceptable option for you to look into.

ALL-ON-4

This is used as an alternative for placing a full set of top or bottom replacement teeth.

Four dental implants are placed in the available bone, this does away with the need of bone grafting. A temporary set of replacement teeth can be placed the same day.

The downside is you will have to follow a special diet while the tissue is still healing and the implants bond with the bone.

After a short 6 months, a permanent set of replacement teeth are placed and you can finally resume your normal diet.

Our dentists at the side dental clinic turkey will assist you with their experience in bone operations and alternative dentistry treatments.

HOW IS DENTAL IMPLANT SURGERY DONE?

How dental implant surgery is performed depends on the type of implant and the condition of your jawbone. Dental implant surgery may involve several procedures. The major benefit of implants is solid support for your new teeth — a process that requires the bone to heal tightly around the implant. Because this bone healing requires time, the process can take many months.

Immediate Postoperative Care

Care should be taken in the immediate postoperative period to minimize contact with the implant. Aside from normal hygiene, it is best to completely leave the implant alone for the first 2 weeks after placement. You may want to limit foods to softer items and chew in an area away from the implant during the 10 to 12-week integration stage.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

Whether you have dental implant surgery in one stage or multiple stages, you may experience some of the typical discomforts associated with any type of dental surgery, such as:

SWELLING

Swelling is the body’s normal reaction to surgery and healing. The swelling will not become apparent until 24 hours after surgery and will not reach its peak for 2-3 days. After this time, the swelling should decrease but may persist for 7-10 days. Swelling may be minimized by the immediate use of ice packs. Apply the ice packs to the outside of the face 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off while awake for the first 24 hours. After 48 hours, begin use of a warm, moist compress to the cheek.

PAIN

Medication / Pain

Unfortunately, most oral surgery is accompanied by some degree of discomfort. If you do not have an allergy to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil) we recommend taking this prior to the local anesthetic wearing off. More severe pain may require narcotic pain medication. Take the narcotic medication and 400mg (2 tablets / 200mg each) of Ibuprofen together every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. While taking a narcotic pain medication you may not drive or operate mechanical machinery. The prescribed pain medication will make you drowsy. Once you feel like you can stop the narcotic, use Ibuprofen and Tylenol together as needed. All medication should NOT exceed the recommended dosage.

If your problem is bigger, call the dentist in Side Dental Clinic .

*NOTE: If you are taking PLAVIX or COUMADIN, do NOT take Ibuprofen or Aspirin products.

BLEEDING

Minimal bleeding is expected after implant surgery. Bleeding after surgery may continue for several hours. The best way to stop bleeding is to fold 2 pieces of damp gauze over the extraction site and gently bite for 30-60 minutes making sure pressure is being applied to the extraction site. Rest quietly with your head elevated. Bleeding should always be evaluated by looking directly at the surgical site. Pink or blood-tinged saliva may be seen for 2-3 days following the surgery and does not indicate a problem. The suture material may last 2 to 3 days and should be left alone.

ORAL HYGIENE

The best way to prevent infection and ensure healing is to keep your mouth clean. Clean your mouth thoroughly after each meal beginning the day after surgery. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and toothpaste after meals and at bedtime. Should bleeding resume after brushing, repeat the use of gauze as described above. Do not rinse your mouth the day of surgery.

DIET

After General anesthetic or I.V. sedation, start with liquids. While numb, patients should avoid hot liquids or foods. Patients may have applesauce, pudding, or jello. Once the numbness wears off patients can progress to solid foods, chewing away from the surgical sites.
